Fuel Price Hikes Fuel Strikes
December 20th, 2010Record petrol and diesel prices have lead to predictions that UK fuel strikes may occur in the forth coming weeks. Reports echo concerns that action could resemble the protests in 2000 which left the nation in dire straits.
In the year 2000 escalating crude oil prices saw truck drivers and framers campaign over fuel prices causing widespread crisis. Refineries and depots were targeted brining the nation to a standstill.
Like many western countries the UK has become dependent on fuel for almost all aspects of life and business. With many companies currently at ‘breaking point’ there are fears strike action could result in companies to cease trading; threatening economic recovery.
January 2011 fuel price increases are expected to trigger protests as many businesses will be unable to manage the additional expenditure.
