According to the Automobile Association, cheap petrol and cheap diesel prices are a thing of the past, petrol prices rose sharply by over 5 percent, over the past month to mid February in the United Kingdom. This rise in petrol prices has been more than the rise in the current inflation rate.
The average retail price of unleaded petrol was 86.6 pence in mid January and rose by 4.3 pence per litre to 90.9 pence.
In a press statement, the association said that compared to the current inflation rate in the UK, the price of petrol in the past month has risen by nearly 5 percent. Over the past month, petrol prices have also risen more sharply than crude oil.
Industry analysts believe the price rise in petrol is because of the low levels of petrol in the United States and Europe, they main markets for gasoline exports for European oil companies.
On the other hand, the Automobile Association said that there was a modest rise in the average price of diesel. From a price of 98.7 pence in mid January, diesel rose to 100.8 pence in mid February, a difference of 2.1 pence.
Although prices of petrol and diesel have been increasing, there is still a way to enjoy considerable fuel savings. When fuel is purchased through petrol cards and diesel cards, its cost can be below the retail market price.

Although the global recession has hit all sectors and petrol prices have been reduced by petrol producing countries, research shows that petrol prices in Great Britain have not lessened a great deal.
Petrol prices were above inflation rates between mid January and February as were diesel rates. On average, petrol increased by 4p per litre and diesel costs rose by 2p. Although drivers and many other organisations have reported discontent in the matter it has had no effect on the fuel prices.
The easiest way to escape such fuel price fluctuation is by making use of petrol cards and diesel cards. When you use a petrol card or a diesel card you save some money every time you refuel your vehicle as the price is fixed. Petrol cards and diesel cards though, do not provide huge concessions but small savings but the overall amount of money saved is not trivial.
Petrol cards and diesel cards are especially beneficial for commercial organisations which have to operate a fleet of vehicles. Petrol cards and diesel cards also enable cashless transactions which is highly beneficial for such commercial organisations.

Fuel price fluctuations have the greatest effect on commercial organisations that own and operate a fleet of vehicles. As the fuel price rises, the companies lose a major part of their profit which affects the business negatively. The easiest solution to this problem is by opting for fuel cards.
Using petrol or diesel cards has many benefits, some of which are discussed below. Fuel cards offer fuel at fixed prices no matter where you fill up. This means that you often save money every time you use a fuel card since the prices are often lower than the ordinary fuel price.
When your company is using fuel cards you can easily check the fuelling details of every vehicle that your company owns. This saves both time and money and keeps a continual check on fuel usage. You can also find the location of the transaction when you are using a fuel card.
Diesel or petrol cards allow cashless transactions. This gets rid of many cash related complications. Reduced cash handling saves both time and money. Also when you are using fuel cards you can pay for the whole month’s fuel usage without paying any interest.
Many petrol cards also offer online account access, free of charge. Thus you can check the outstanding bill any time and plan your expenditure accordingly. This is highly beneficial for business organisations which are relatively new or have been hit badly by the global recession. So get hold of fuel cards and save some cash as soon as possible.

Monitoring:
In order to manage the fleet properly, fleets are required to manage their fuel costs. Using a petrol card it becomes faster and easier to calculate the associated costs and the usage of fuel.
Vehicle choice:
Though a driver has more significant impact on the vehicle’s fuel economy, it is still necessary to provide efficient vehicles. You will need to compare the claims that are provided by manufacturers regarding their vehicles and at the same time find the applicable models depending on the CO2 emissions and fuel economy.
Speed:
After research, scientists have stated that about 2.1 million tonnes of CO2 can be saved every year if the drivers in the UK obey the speed limits on dual carriageways and motorways which will ultimately save 800 million litres of fuel.

One thing that is always changing is the economy, and as the economy fluctuates so do fuel prices. While low fuel prices are always welcome, high fuel prices can be quite challenging for everyone.
Diesel cards or petrol cards help in keeping fuel costs organised and structured. This is because every time fuel is filled, instead of paying cash, fuel cards are swiped. A petrol card, also known as fuel card is quite similar to a debit or credit card in appearance however the functions and benefits are quite different. Though the discounts on fuel cards are not much, they do add up to a considerable amount over a period of time.
For convenience, most petrol stations accept diesel cards as well as petrol cards. One of the biggest advantages of using a fuel card is that a driver does not need to worry about carrying cash.
Petrol and diesel cards are also beneficial at avoiding fuel thefts. As every entry is recorded and preserved automatically, the scope of misusing the card is just about zero. Petrol and diesel cards keep managers happy when it comes to accounting and budgeting. Fuel cards record every activity that involves fuel consumption, which is essential for all organisations that run their businesses with vehicles, like transport and haulage.
